Lenny Wolpe and Jared Grimes have joined the previously announced Tony winner Laura Benanti and five-time Dancing with the Stars victor Derek Hough in the Rockettes’ upcoming New York Spring Spectacular. Wolpe will play Bernie, a New York City tour guide facing the chopping block, and Grimes will take on the role of Marshall, the right-hand-man to Jenna (Benanti). Performances will begin on March 12 at Radio City Music Hall, where it will run through May 3. Opening night is set for March 26.
Wolpe recently appeared on the Great White Way in Bullets Over Broadway. His additional credits include Wicked, The Drowsy Chaperone, The Sound of Music, Mayor, Into the Light and Copperfield. Grimes’ previous stage credits include a Fred & Adele Astaire Award-winning turn in Broadway’s After Midnight (helmed by New York Spring Spectacular director/choreographer Warren Carlyle) and Twist, Babes in Arms, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Penned by Joshua Harmon, the new show featuring the iconic New York dance troupe will celebrate the charm of the Big Apple, complete with the voices of Whoopi Goldberg and Bella Thorne as the voices of the Statue of Liberty and the Alice in Wonderland statue, respectively. Diane Paulus and Randy Weiner serve as co-creative directors. New York Spring Spectacular is produced by MSG Entertainment and The Weinstein Company (which is working with Paulus on Finding Neverland).
